Peter: We took the lumps and then, yeah, I had my dream job when I was in my mid-20s as in Madison Square Garden like running marketing for the New York Knicks and I thought I could have died and gone to heaven and thats, I lived breathed in the Knicks basketball and Ranger hockey, it was the greatest. So first of all, the bubble was kind of like so exciting, surreal, and awesome. The first kind of fully owned African American sports agency, whose main client was Arthur Ashe. It was kind of like take a weekend and moonlight into a fun job. Some people dont like to hear that anymore. "He plays with the Bucks 95 percent of the time. Sometimes it goes up for judicial review to make sure the run is harmonious, Lee said. Talk about it, you transition now from the Knicks and your consulting gig to the president of the Bucks. We're not an organization that splits up into silos of business or basketball. John: Talking about teaching, we have 15 years of this podcast, so we have thousands of young people around the world that actually tune in and listen and when we have someone like you on, Id like to ask you this. Here's my conversation with Peter Feigin. Talk about that. Is this coming? Thats a good run. Let them know they're part of the family. I think it changes the landscape. Its all about your partner, it was one of these opportunities where she was just all in and to her benefit, like I owe her forever because it was, like its been an unbelievable, run and a huge opportunity. I answer that by saying like we were successful because at the time the Brooklyn Nets, the Orlando Magic, and a bunch of other teams were selfless with their help with us on how to have best practices on how to build an arena and how to build an infrastructure on how to form. It's a simple filter to go through things, if we have to question it, we're pretty sure its wrong," shared Feigin. I just wanted to get it done and kind of move the needle and kind of. And I think it was like a checkpoint for us certainly, but for the whole country on like, "Boy, this is one of those inflection points that we've got to make matter in a big way." Peter: Well, its having like Ive always said, people talk about their personal board of directors and what that is and I had the advantage and still have the advantage of my mother being the best consultant you could possibly have. By the way I never wouldve said this seven years ago, I think you have to be involved. Its kind of like the unwritten rule: Dont argue about anything. Talk about the importance of having diversity in the front office particularly. John: Its fascinating you say that. My mother was one of the preeminent ad executives from Grey Advertising for 40 years. Then she just starts laughing. You and I go back since you came back to the Bucks or since you came to the Bucks and you guys have been incredible to me over the years since you've been in a position in Milwaukee and really grateful of our friendship over the years and how the organization has welcomed me back to the organization. I wanted to be in marketing in sales. Michael Red: I don't think there's anybody better. Youre unbelievably inspirational. We have the DNA and the strength and this caliber of championship caliber team to really be attractive to the world. And it became one of the greatest things ever. I always think it comes back. We've got Peter Feigin. John: Like you said, the smartest people could take the most complex issues and just make them simple. Peter: The same he is, everywhere else. It was important for us for our players, for our organization, for the city to stand up. And that's kind of like you do it with great people around you. We pivoted and our kids were able to finish high school in New York and we made it work and now weve been Wisconsin residents from New York City, which is a whole other interesting transition. Michael Red: The mental health and wellness of the players, right? How does that boat go? Got it. And I think he's going to sell the team. We have large sections that you never think about 10 years ago that people hang out at a bar, never have a seat, never, standing room only. Theyre the worst. Peter holds a bachelor's degree from Franklin and Marshall College and completed the University Of Chicago Booth School Of Business' Financial Executive Program. I think to be successful here and take it from a very fast talking, sometimes lazy speaking New Yorker, who swears too much and does everything. Peter Feigin: I think nobody could have imagined what that does to you on a personal psychological emotional level. And I knew who Arthur Ashe was, but I wasn't a big tennis guy and my job was basically being Arthur Ashe's right hand person through. Peter Feigin is riding his Peloton bike. These guys are human beings. Peter: I think when the opportunity came and we thought it was such a good idea, we were aiming an incredible. Peter Feigin: No. I better go home and talk to Natalia to do it. She is like, "We're in this together." Peter Feigin: And how do you rethink your strategies for retail? I never wanted to be that guy with the goggles and the knee brace and the tucked-in shirt being like, Hey! I understood what a call to action was. Peter: Yeah. How we build our brand and how we build our awareness and likability around that, it's just kind of one of those no-brainers, too. And there is no magic wand that kind of changes this in six months.
